The Matthews Rotary Fall Festival, which raises money for local nonprofits, will return to downtown Matthews Saturday, Oct. 20 in Stumptown Park, 120 S. Trade St.
Live music, a chili cook off, bike ride and inflatables for kids will be featured at the eighth annual event. The day will begin with a 30-mile and a 60-mile bike ride sponsored by Bicycles East in Matthews. Registration for the ride is $20 and will begin at 7:30 a.m. across from the park. The ride starts at 8:30 a.m.
The registration fee for the ride includes admission to the chili cook off, which starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m., or until the chili runs out. Chili cook off teams will participate, most made up of people from local organizations, businesses and restaurants Festivalgoers will be the judges.
Chili tasting tickets are $5.
Proceeds from this year’s festival will benefit: the Matthews Free Medical Clinic, the Matthews Help Center, Christ Our Shepherd Ministries, the Levine Senior Center and the Matthews Rotary Club which provides scholarships, polio research and prevention, assistance to impoverished people in Peru, a Veterans Day lunch for local veterans and many other local services.
