About 1,600 scholars and 500 community supporters gathered together for the Freedom School Partners Jubilee, which raised a record-setting $120,000 through sponsorships and community donations.
The funds go toward operating costs for the current fiscal year.
“From scholar to supporter, today reaffirms the enthusiasm and excitement for all of us involved with Freedom School Partners,” Mary Nell McPherson, executive director at Freedom School Partners said in a news release. “And seeing so many new and familiar faces join together in support of summer learning truly made this event a tremendous success.”
This is the third year for the fundraising event as the Jubilee grows toward its goal of serving 5,000 children by 2016.
Sponsors for this year’s event included: Starr and Dickens Orthodontics in Matthews, NASCAR Foundation, Duke Energy, Apartment Reality Advisors, Piedmont Natural Gas, Robinson Bradshaw and Hinson, Foundation For The Carolinas, Burch and Arrington Mixon, Charlotte Country Day School, Myers Park United Methodist Church, Hank Durkin, US Airways, Deidre Grubb and Judy Seldin-Cohen, Deloitte, Springs Creative, Fifth Third Bank, Parker Poe, Snyder’s Lance and Womble Carlyle Sandridge and Rice, LLP.
