Covenant Day School in Matthews is seeking permission from the Town of Matthews to increase its high school-student capacity to 420. The high school currently has 300 students.
The school and its affiliated church, Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church, have filed a change of condition to their zoning plan to accommodate more students. A public hearing is scheduled March 12 with Matthews town commissioners at 7 p.m. in town hall, 232 Matthews Station St.
According to the application, the current high school building can accommodate the additional students. No mobile classrooms would be added to the high school campus if the change is approved, school spokeswoman Megan Holt said. The building was built in 2003 when the school requested permission to hold up to 300 students.
If the change is approved, the school won’t change its admissions process, Holt said.
