The owners of 2.1 acres off Matthews-Mint Hill Road are in negotiations to bring a periodontist and an endodontist to Mint Hill. And the building they will share will face Phyllis Lane, a private street.
Town commissioners voted 4-1 Thursday, March 8 to allow Dr. Earle Sullivan, who owns the property with his business partner, Dr. Anastasi “Taso” Roupas, to construct the building facing a private street instead of the public street rule in the town’s zoning code. Commissioner Tina Ross voted against the measure, saying it wasn’t fair to other developers who were made to comply with the code.
“It’s a concern of mine that we don’t require all of our applicants to do the same thing. I just think in the interest of fairness, we should ask everyone to do the same thing,” she said. “It seems as if there are practical design alternatives that exist. I don’t think it’s fair.”
The yet-to-be constructed building across the parking lot from the current Mint Hill Dentistry, would be the “final piece” for the dental complex which began in 2007 with Mint Hill Dentistry, Sullivan said.
