Matthews adds emergency response volunteers

Six new members were recently added to Matthews’ volunteer Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. The new volunteers brings the organization up to 24 active members, organizer Bunker Hill said.

Part of the U.S. Citizen Corps program and tied to the Department of Homeland Security, CERT volunteers are trained in disaster preparedness and basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

For more information or to become a volunteer, call Hill at 704-972-5438, 704-845-1888 or e-mail
