Repair work is expected to begin soon after an accident Feb. 29 in front of Mint Hill’s ABC Store damaged bricks and forced the removal of a glass window.

According to Mint Hill Police Lt. Joe Hatley a woman who “pushed the gas pedal instead of the brakes” ran into the front of the store at 7044 Brighton Park Drive with her vehicle.

The driver was a customer who was arriving at the store at about 3 p.m. and no one was injured, said Mary Ward, spokeswoman with the Mecklenburg County ABC Board. The accident damaged bricks in front of the store but didn’t break the glass window now boarded up with plywood, she said. Crews removed the window after the accident in preparation for the brick work, she said. The accident did cause some bottles of alcohol inside the store to fall to the floor.

The building has been checked for structural damage and work to fix the brick and replace the window will begin soon, Ward said.

“We’re going to get that taken care of very soon,” she said.
