A former Navy airplane mechanic is the newest officer to join the ranks of the Mint Hill Police Department.
Justin Neal, 27, joined the department Feb. 1. It’s his first job in law enforcement and he’s taking online classes through Kaplan College to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Neal grew up in St. Louis, Mo. and joined the Navy after graduating from high school. While traveling to places like Dubai, Malaysia and Thailand, Neal worked on F-18 Hornet fighter jets and left the service in 2007 after four years as a petty officer third class.
He moved to Charlotte then and started working for his brother at a woodworking machinery shop when he decided to pursue a career in law enforcement.
“I love to help people within the community,” he said.
