Eye on Development: Lennar wants to launch new Matthews subdivision

National company buys 12 acres off Pineville-Matthews Road

National builder Lennar wants to build a 37-house subdivision off Pineville-Matthews Road near its intersection with Covenant Church Lane.

But to begin construction, they’ll need a change in the property’s zoning classification to allow for detached single-family houses. A public hearing date is set for May 14 and town commissioners are expected to vote June 11.

Lennar, which has an office in Ballantyne, bought the property Sept. 30, according to town zoning records. The land, adjacent to the Stratfordshire subdivision and Covenant Day School’s Warner Park, would include about three houses per acre and about 3.3 acres of common open space, according to the company’s site plan submitted to the town.

Lennar entered the Matthews market in December by purchasing remaining lots in the Pleasant Ridge subdivision off Pleasant Plains Road. The 36-lot neighborhood was abandoned by Ryan Homes.

The company’s town home project in Mint Hill’s Brighton Park is nearly sold out.
