The local chapter of the nonprofit Warriors & Warbirds will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser Saturday, April 21 to raise money to help its newest friend: a World War II-era airplane named The Tinker Belle.
Former Matthews Mayor Lee Myers, an avid pilot, is helping to organize the event, which runs from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Charlotte Monroe Executive Airport, 3900 Paul J. Helms Drive in Monroe. The event features all-you-can eat pancakes for $5, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and a spot-landing competition for arriving aircraft.
The Tinker Belle, a C-46 Commando airplane, is still in working order and the nonprofit wants to keep it that way. All money raised at the event will benefit Tinker Belle.
