Mint Hill residents should see the installation of stone columns at the front of the under-construction town hall within a week, Scott Fandel with Edifice General Contractors said.
The two-story, 20,000-square-foot building at 4430 Mint Hill Village Lane in the Mint Hill Village is still on target to be complete by mid-July, he said. Brick work outside is complete, Fandel said, and drywall has already gone up on the first floor. Within a week, work is expected to begin on ceilings and the copper for the building’s cupola dome on top will begin to be installed in about two weeks, he said.
The site suffered its first major theft April 2 when Charlotte-based Adams Electrical reported $2,000 in copper wire was stolen. Since then contractors have taken “extra precautions” to secure the site, Fandel said, noting Mint Hill Police have increased patrols around the building.
Construction site theft is “not uncommon and for us to be this far in and just now have that problem that’s pretty good,” Fandel said.
