State Rep. Bill Brawley, of Matthews, was appointed as co-chair of the House Banking Committee last week during the second day of the North Carolina House of Representatives’ short session, according to a news release.
“I am honored by the opportunity to chair this important committee,” Brawley said in the release. “In tough economic times, the Banking Committee will take up serious legislative issues that have a direct impact on North Carolina’s recovering financial situation. I look forward to having a key role in that important process.”
Brawley’s appointment comes despite his freshman status in the House; a rare responsibility in the General Assembly, the release said. Brawley, a Republican, was elected in 2010. He’s running unopposed this November.
Brawley’s appointment is effective immediately, and the House is now entering the first full week of work following the reconvening of the regularly-scheduled short session on May 16. Brawley represents District 103.
