Covenant Day School in Matthews has withdrawn its petition to get permission from the Town of Matthews to increase its high school-student capacity to 420. The high school, built in 2003, currently has 300 students.
The school and its affiliated church, Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church, decided to withdraw the petition and wait to refile until after the new head of school, Mark Davis, begins in July and school and church officials have more time to discuss the measure.
“In the meantime, CDS will explore other options to meet current enrollment demands from prospective families,” Jody Billiard, school board chairman, said in a memo to commissioners.
Town commissioners had expressed concern about the proposal and ongoing noise and lighting problems at the school’s Warner Park.
