The Town of Matthews wins $20,000 for educational programming if Ryan Newman wins the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race or the Coca-Cola 600 race Saturday, May 19.
The town is one of 23 municipalities statewide participating in the Charlotte Motor Speedway’s May Race to Education program. The program will contribute $20,000 to each community randomly paired with a NASCAR driver.
Matthews will sell program T-shirts beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at Stumptown Park, 120 S. Trade St. before the showing of Kung Fu Panda 2 at about 8:30 p.m. A donation of $10 from the sale of each T-shirt will be given to Matthews schools. The Speedway also will have their FanExperience Van for visitors.
