Mecklenburg County’s first annual Military Awareness Week is next week, with a number of events planned across the county.
Some of the events include:
• Monday, May 14, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. – Educational seminars at the Veteran Services Office, Hal Marshall Center, 700 N. Tryon St. Seminars will focus on military culture, effects of deployment and mental health issues.
• Wednesday, May 16, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Armed Forces Career Expo, the Navy-Marine Corps Reserve Center, 8115 N. Hills Circle. Classes offered include resumé writing and interviewing, how to be your own boss and career counseling and individualized sessions.
• May 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Grand Finale at Marshall Park, 800 E. 3rd St.. The event will include displays from the nation’s military branches, entertainment, food, health-care screenings and resources for military members and civilians.
