Museum hosts documentary honoring ex-POWs

The Armed Forces Museum & Archives of the Carolinas will show a documentary this weekend honoring local former prisoners of war.

“Honoring Our World War II Heroes – The American POW Experience” is a 30-minute documentary about what it was like for prisoners of war. The film is showing in three locations: at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Mint Hill Historical Society’s Ashcraft Schoolhouse, 7601 Matthews-Mint Hill Road; at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Morrison Regional Library, 7015 Morrison Blvd. in Charlotte, and on Wednesday, May 30 at 7:00 p. m. at the South Charlotte Banquet Center, 9009 Bryant Farms Road. All showings are free and open to the public.

The video features World War II veterans Robert Berly and Ed Halliburton of Matthews and Tom Easterling of Mint Hill.

The museum is scheduled to break ground in 2014 at the Park on Fairview in Mint Hill.
