Faith Notes: June 22

Matthews UMC hosts Alzheimer’s support group

People who have dealt or are dealing with Alzheimer’s in their lives are invited to a support group meeting Monday night at Matthews United Methodist Church.

The group gives those who have a friend, acquaintance or loved one going through the disease a chance to meet others going through the same thing and an avenue to talk about their experiences. There’s no cost to attend, and people do not have to register before hand. The group meets Monday, June 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, 801 S. Trade St., in Matthews, in room 213/215.

Care for loved ones can be arranged by calling ahead to Marge Averill at 704-847-0359 or by emailing mwaverill

Looking at life through faith

Matthews Presbyterian Church’s Table Talk series will start July 1, focusing on viewing the most important issues today through “the lens of faith.”

The weekly sessions use online video lectures from artists, poets, professionals and others to consider how we see the world, how we deal with difficult problems and how we might be called to action. Meetings are every Sunday starting July 1 and wrapping up Aug. 19. Meetings last from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church’s worship center, 207 W. John St., in Matthews.

Child care, as well as classes for children, are available. Call 704-847-4094 or email for more information.
