Henderson Grove Presbyterian to host summer reading

Henderson Grove Presbyterian Church, 8724 Blair Road in Mint Hill, is sponsoring a free summer reading program for kids of all ages.

The program, which is offered from toddlers to teens, starts Saturday, June 30, from 10 to 11 a.m. People can register for the classes at the June 30 meeting.

The main purpose of the program is to encourage students to read at least one book over the summer. People also will be on hand to read to younger children.

Reading workshops also will be on July 7 and 21 and Aug. 4 and 18, all starting at 10 a.m.

Carmel Baptist to host free Zumba class

The Women’s Ministry at Carmel Baptist Church and ROCsports, a sports ministry at the church, will host a free Zumba class Saturday, June 30, from 9 to 10:15 a.m.

The class is open to women of all ages, school age and up, and will be lead by ROC instructors. The class is free, but participants are asked to bring a donation for Changed Choices, a ministry for women previously incarcerated who are starting over.

The ministry is in need of toiletries, Target gift cards or monetary donations.

The class will take place in the ROC gym at the church, 1145 Pineville-Matthews Road, in Matthews. People are asked to wear workout shoes and to bring a water bottle.

Trinity Fellowship to host summer films

Trinity Fellowship Church, 13232 Idlewild Road, in Matthews, will host Christian movies in the church sanctuary July 15 and Aug. 26, both Sundays, for their Summer Films series.

Showings will begin at 6 p.m. both nights with light refreshments provided. The church will show “Israel in Prophecy” on July 15 and “Courageous” on Aug. 26.

Nursery and childcare will be provided.

Registration open for Mount Harmony afterschool program

Registration for the 2012-13 school year is already open for the afterschool program at Mount Harmony Baptist Church, in Matthews.

The program, which is in its fourth year, is for kindergarten through fifth grade and operates Monday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. The church is a drop-off site for Bain Elementary, and also will pick up students in some Union County Schools.
