The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close two railroad crossings in Mint Hill to allow crews with Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railway Co. to perform upgrade work, according to a news release from the NCDOT.
The crossing near the intersection of N.C. 51, Blair Road, and N.C. 24/27, or Albemarle Road, will be closed Monday, June 18 to Thursday, June 21. Traffic be detoured from N.C. 24/27 to Interstate 485 to N.C. 51 (Exit 43).
The crossing near the intersection of Arlington Church Road at N.C. 24/27 will be closed Monday, June 25 to Thursday, June 28. Traffic will be detoured from N.C. 24/27 to Cabarrus Road back to Arlington Church Road.
The railroad work is being done in preparation for a $260,663 improvement project to add a new westbound left-turn lane from Albemarle to Blair, a new westbound right-turn lane from Albemarle to Rocky River Church Road and a second through lane on southbound Blair. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is footing the bill for the project, which was planned with the opening of Rocky River High School.
State crews began roadwork Thursday, June 14 after rain delayed the earlier start of the project this week.
