Charlotte-Mecklenburg regional libraries will be open on Sundays this fall thanks to the county’s recently approved budget.
The budget includes an additional $811,000 in funding to allow the six regional libraries to open on Sunday for four hours each. The list includes south Charlotte’s South County and east Charlotte’s Independence library. The new hours should start Sept. 9 and help students who need the library for homework help during the school year, said library spokeswoman Cordelia Anderson.
“What it would mean is that, basically, for (around) $800,000 every citizen will be within a 10-minute drive of a library on a Sunday,” Anderson said previously. “We’re very excited about that because one of the things we’ve heard from citizens over the years is they’d like their Sunday hours back.”
South County Regional is located at 5801 Rea Road and Independence Regional is located at 6000 Conference Drive.
