When staff and students return to Independence High School, the school’s front entry will be asbestos free. Crews were working this week to remove the material from the lobby ceiling, a $41,247 project scheduled to be complete by Aug. 14, said Phil Berman, CMS executive director for building services.
“Over the years we’ve been removing all of the asbestos from the schools,” Berman said. “It’s not a hazard unless it’s exposed and we’re inspecting it regularly. But our approach is just to get it out of the schools.”
