When I frequently read about traffic issues associated with Christ Covenant Church’s ball fields behind the southwest corner of the intersection of Monroe Road and N.C. 51, it is reported that drivers have to make a “dangerous U-turn” to get to the (Warner Park) fields because of the planted median strip on Pineville-Matthews Road.
If drivers are making any “dangerous U-turns” associated with their trips to the ball fields, they are taking the wrong route to the field.
The U-turn that they may be taking at the intersection of Monroe Road and N.C. 51 can easily be avoided by taking Covenant Church Lane to John Street, making a left onto John Street and another left onto N.C. 51.
The U-turn that (drivers) may be taking at the intersection of N.C. 51 and Fullwood Lane just as easily can be avoided by making a left turn onto Fullwood Lane. If they wish to return to the church, or its associated school, they then could turn into the church’s driveway. If they wish to go elsewhere, they would take a left on Trade Street to return to N.C. 51 or John Street/Monroe Road.
Of course, the ideal arrangement for the ball fields would have been for their driveway to have been located such that the intersection of Fullwood Lane and N.C. 51 was a four-way intersection with one of the legs being their driveway — but hind sight is 20-20.
