Matthews residents will notice new directional signs going up during the next two weeks as part of the town’s Wayfinding and Beautification Project.
The first sign was installed last week on Fullwood Road near its intersection with South Trade Street. Officials plan to install 30 new signs to mark major destinations in the town.
It’s all part of an estimated $400,000 project, to be completed over two years, with about $200,000 spent each year, spokeswoman Annette Privette Keller said. Funding will come from the town’s tourism fund, which is the town’s share of hotel and motel occupancy and prepared-food and beverage taxes. Tourism money cannot be used for general operating expenses.
