Your hangers can help the homeless

Area Collins Cleaners locations can turn your unwanted hangers into help for the area’s homeless.

Both accept wire, plastic or wooden hangers for recycling or reuse. The business, which has five area locations, will either reuse the hangers for other customers or recycle them, getting money for the scrap materials. Either way the money saved or earned through recycling will be used to buy supplies to make sandwiches for the homeless at Charlotte’s Urban Ministries, owner Patrick Collins said.

Plans are in the works to partner with local churches for a sandwich-making day for each store where the community could get involved, he said.

New metal hangers cost 8 to 12 cents a piece.

“For us, it’s all about helping the community,” Collins said.

Collins Cleaners has a location near Matthews at 15080 Idlewild Road and in Mint Hill at 7005 Matthews-Mint Hill Road.
