Historic Lemmond House now B&B
A South Trade Street house in Matthews that dates to 1907 is now home to a bed and breakfast.
Bill and Connie Clayton recently opened The Lemmond House Bed & Breakfast in their home, 300 S. Trade St. In their first weeks of business, the couple have already welcomed guests from
Asheville, Texas and Alabama.
The Dutch Colonial-style house was originally built by the Lemmond family and has undergone numerous renovations through the years, including the addition of a second story in 1920. Bill Clayton bought the house in 1996 after seeing a “condemned” sign on the front porch and spent more than a decade renovating the house and adding private baths with Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs and large walk-in tiled showers in each of the upstairs bedrooms.
The ground floor features the house’s original dark oak flooring and brick columns used in the back yard fence were made from re-using bricks from the fireplaces torn out of the house. The Matthews Historical Foundation awarded the Claytons with a Fullwood Restoration Award for the project.
Rooms cost $149 per night and include a hot breakfast.
