Business Expo promotes buying local

MINT HILL – Anyone looking for samples and more information on Mint Hill businesses can get their fill at the free second annual Biz Expo on March 13 from 4 to 7 p.m.

More than 40 local businesses from a variety of industries will showcase their products and services to the public at Blair Road Methodist Church Family Life Center, at 9135 Blair Road. The event is expected to fill up quickly, said Sandy Barnett, administrator for the chamber.

“The chamber encourages all Mint Hill residents to visit to expo to learn more about the local products and services that are offered here in our community,” Barnett said.

Grand prizes will be awarded to winners at each booth and will be selected by Scott Francis, keynote speaker. Top prizes will include a Kindle Fire from Collins Cleaners, a free portrait session with Candice Wood Photography, $100 in lawn service from Green Earth Lawn & Landscaping, $50 gift certificate from Mint Hill Tractor, a Sam’s Club Membership and two tickets to a Carolina Panthers game from HB Cantrell & Co.

Francis, who is the master of ceremonies for the expo, also plans to speak about the benefits of buying local.

“The great advantage to buying local in Mint Hill is that the majority of our businesses and small to medium sized and the owner or operator is on site to directly assist…” Barnett said. “The expo provides the consumer with the opportunity to connect with businesses and help grow our local economy.

Some exhibitors, such as Chick-fil-A, Daphne’s Bakery, Big Guys Pizza, Nova’s Bakery and Irene’s Café will give out free samples. Also, more than 90 percent of the exhibitors will be offering a grand prize, which are awarded on site and free to enter, according to a chamber news release.

Many other exhibitors will have the owner on site to talk with attendees directly and other will have representatives to answer questions.
