MINT HILL – Local business leaders had a few laughs while learning more about marketing and networking at last week’s Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce meeting.
Scott Francis, keynote speaker, corporate entertainer, author, marketing consultant, comedian and magician all rolled into one, entertained the crowd at the Pine Lake Country Club on Feb. 27 with his presentation called “How to get an insane amount of leads in 30 days or less.”
Through anecdotes and the use of props, Francis told the story of how he first hated marketing but came to embrace it three years ago after the recession hit. And he said local business leaders will love marketing, too, if they know the right steps to take.
“There are things you can do to make yourself look better,” Francis said while holding up to garage sale signs – one brown and one yellow – to show attendees the importance of visibility and how something as simple as the shade of your advertisement could affect your sales.
Just as important as the visibility of the ad is what is on it, Francis said, launching into another story. He received multiple flyers in the mail from various people looking to mow grass. One flyer was very plain, the other was brightly colored and one had a picture of a lawnmower at the top. He showed the flyer with the picture of the lawnmower at the top as an example that the sign shows the feature and not the benefit. He suggested instead of a lawnmower, the flyer should have a beautifully mowed yard. People want to see the results they will get from a particular advertisement, Francis explained.
