Mint Hill commissioners meeting canceled

MINT HILL – The Mint Hill Board of Commissioners meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 26, has been canceled due to lack of business.

Bridge replacement postponed

MATTHEWS – The North Carolina Department of Transportation has postponed scheduled work on the Steven’s Mill Road bridge over North Fork Crooked Creek tributary.

Work was expected to start Monday, June 23. A reason for postponing the project was not given in a news release about the project.

NCDOT has posted a weight limit restricting single-axle vehicles and trucks weighing more than 15 tons from using the bridge, according to the release. The bridge was constructed in 1958 and “is classified as structurally deficient and functionally obsolete,” the release said.


Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Department seeks deputy director

MINT HILL – Applications are currently being accepted for the position of deputy director at the Mint Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

The position has operational responsibility for directing fire suppression and emergency medical services for the department and personnel, including hiring and disciplinary actions, according to a news release. Additional responsibilities include overseeing promotional exams, hiring, serving as the liaison to the personnel commission and other related functions, workers compensation processes, human resources responsibilities and serving as the “acting” fire director in his/her absence.

Family Dollar to host job fair on Thursday

MATTHEWS – Family Dollar will host a job fair on Thursday, June 26, to hire warehouse order fillers for its North Carolina Distribution Center in Matthews.

The fair will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at the center, at 10401 Monroe Road. Attendees should enter using the white skywalk, according to a news release.

An additional job fair is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1, from 8 a.m. to noon.


Adoption seminar to be held in Matthews

MATTHEWS – The Christian Adoption Services group will host a seminar next month for people who are interested in adopting but concerned about the cost, according to a news release.

The event will take place July 10, a Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 624 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, suite 134.

“We will share practical fundraising ideas as well as hear from an adoptive family who has raised their total funds for two separate adoptions,” according to the release.

Reminder: USA Weekend no longer running in Weekly

This week will mark the final time USA Weekend is included in Matthews-Mint Hill Weekly, as USA Weekend has decided to change its “marketing and distribution operations,” according to a letter sent to the paper’s parent company, Carolina Weekly Newspaper Group.
